This is one of those paintings that put me on my knees. In all honesty I went back and forth about wanting to add the cross because I worried about the appeal. But that it means so much to me. This piece wouldn’t even matter without that detail. It started for me in my closet, and I could say a lot of pretty words. But the truth is that this one is for me. It’s for you. It’s for them. It’s for rest and peace. Courage and meekness. It’s about sitting at that rugged cross and having to carrying it. Whatever you take from it…however you take from it…I’m happy that you got something.
